GAME RECAP
Glasgow Clan recorded a first home win over Cardiff Devils in over two years as they took both points in a 4-1 win at Braehead Arena.
Devils had been successful in each of their last seven visits to Glasgow but that run came to an end as a combination of clinical finishing and top goaltending by Landon Bow ensured a home victory.
An even first period saw both teams feeling each other out in the opening spell, but it wasn’t until Joe Hazeldine struck a loose puck after a couple of minutes that Cardiff goalie Mac Carruth got his gloves warmed up.
Rylan Schwartz found himself put through shortly after, but Carruth was equal to it again to deny the home team an early advantage.
A smashed shot from Joey Martin up the other end as Bow, the Clan netminder, found himself with a chance to deal with.
Then Cole Sanford forced the home goaltender to plunge low to make the block who then successfully dealt with Kohen Olifschefski try to get something on the rebound, but was also denied.
Clan finally broke the deadlock with just under five to go in the first when Deven Sideroff took the puck around the Cardiff net and played it back in, finding Mitchell Heard, finding the gap on Carruth’s right to find the net.
Robert Lachowicz saw a great chance saved a few minutes as Glasgow threatened to add a second before the first interval.
Corey Neilson’s side got the best start to the second possible as Hazeldine’s effort went loose near the Devils goal, where Schwartz struck to double the lead.
Soon it was three as Cole Ully found the net again against his old team, striking the puck from the centre to send it flying past Carruth.
Then Deven Sideroff set up Schwartz, who blasted his effort from the inside left into the top right hand corner of the Devils goal as Clan went four unanswered goals ahead.
Cardiff managed to pull one back on the powerplay as Sanford’s shot ricocheted out where it found Martin on hand to make sure there was no mistake.
A couple of big saves from Bow early in the third made sure any momentum the Devils were looking to build was thwarted, while Martin hit the post soon after as Cardiff put on some pressure.
Clan kept it simple as they kept the visitors at bay and while their best chance in the third came from Tyson McLellan, from a Liam Finlay pass, it didn’t alter the score as Glasgow clinched victory.
