GAME RECAP

A third period fightback saw Cardiff Devils turned a two-goal deficit into a win as Glasgow Clan were edged out in a nine-goal thriller at Braehead Arena.

Clan’s eight-game winning run at home was on the line as Pete Russell’s Devils side provided the opposition in the first game in Glasgow of 2025, but a ninth straight win wasn’t to be on the night.

Cardiff’s best chance of the early stages came as Zach O’Brien stabbed it into the centre, but Kohen Olischefski couldn’t get enough contact to take it beyond Landon Bow in Clan’s net.

But it was the home side who took the lead as Cole Ully fired his shot, dragging the puck in from the left and sending it over Carruth’s left shoulder and into the net with three to go of the first.

Mitchell Heard added a second shortly after when he passed to Després, who played it straight back, allowing the #13 to send his effort into the net before the end of the opening period.

The Devils got on the board in the second period as Donaghey snapped one in from the right side with Bow’s vision limited by the screen and the Devils halved Clan’s lead.

But the home side responded straight away as Rylan Schwartz got a final touch on Joe Hazeldine’s shot, which was upheld by video review.

Devils pulled another back in the third when a break forward saw a three-on-two situation, with O’Brien setting up Brett Perlini, who tapped it into the net.

Then they were level as Mark Richardson put the puck on the Clan net, with Tyler Busch redirecting it past Bow.

Cardiff got themselves in front with another break as Cole Sanford hit one between the legs of Bow, turning the game around five minutes into the third period.

Olischefski hit the post shortly after as the Devils looked to turn the screw on the game, but blocker saves from Carruth denied Sideroff then Liam Finlay.

Clan made the most of a powerplay chance as Schwartz done enough to get the puck over the line for his second, with help from an unfortunate touch by Richardson.

Cardiff retook the lead with four minutes on a five-on-three advantage as O’Brien’s pass across the crease found MacDonald free at the back post to sweep it home.

Glasgow were denied a fifth goal near the end as Olischefski made a magnificent goal-line save, getting his stick on the puck to move it away from danger and killing off any hopes of late drama.
