The Premier Sports Glasgow Clan downed the Belfast Giants in an overtime thriller to give themselves a fighting chance at progression in the Challenge Cup.

Both teams came into the game hungry for victory with the Clan sitting last in the Challenge Cup Group B standings, and Belfast one point off the top with two losses in their last two games.

Clan captain, Deven Sideroff got the first chance of the game when he picked up a loose puck in the Clan zone and burst down the ice on a breakaway but Jackson Whistle was quick to it.

Lucas Brine showed his prowess at the other end as Scott Conway tipped a shot on net from close range that the Brit netminder quickly got a shoulder to to keep out.

Glasgow were then awarded a penalty shot after Chris McKay was impeded by Karl Boudrais’ stick in the slot, but Brayden Burke couldn’t capitalise as his shot dragged wide.

Both netminders ended the period happy with no goals conceded, with Brine cutting out 6 shots on net from the Giants and Whistle the busier of the two with 15 saves.

In the third period, Brett Neumann got the first goal of the game after Felix Pare battled to get the puck into the offensive zone to lay off Burke who set up the #63 for the opener.

The Giants responded quickly through Mike Lee though as he followed Nicolas Guay’s shot in on net and swept the rebound through Brine’s pads for the equaliser.

Ryan Smith gave Belfast the lead shortly after as he picked up from Scott Conway’s faceoff win in the Clan zone and quickly fired a shot on net to catch the Glasgow defence flat footed and put the Giants ahead.

Whistle continued his fine form into the third period as he frustrated the Clan offence with an equaliser looking nigh on impossible.

Olympic defenceman, Jason Fram stepped up in the closing minutes to claim the equaliser through a rebound of Cade Neilson’s shot.

The game was forced to overtime following Fram’s equaliser where Neumann had the crowd wincing as he struck the post in an agonisingly close call for the Clan.

Darien Kielb did well to battle in the neutral zone and gain possession before feeding it to Langan who knocked it into the slot for Kielb to pick up and deke past Whistle to get the overtime winner for Glasgow.
