GAME RECAP
Three first period goals set the tone as Glasgow Clan took victory and two points in a 5-2 win over Belfast Giants at Braehead Arena.
It was the first of two home games this weekend and the result was the perfect start as Clan picked up a second win over the Giants in their own building this season.
Steven Seigo found the lead for the Clan within the opening five minutes as he slammed a shot from the right-side circle which fizzed into the top of the Belfast net.
Rylan Schwartz followed up shortly after as he doubled the hosts’ advantage when he was found all alone in the slot by Mitchell Heard before slipping the puck past Tom McCollum.
At the other end, Glasgow goalie Landon Bow threw himself into the action, literally, as he lunged out of his crease to swat away a breakaway chance for Mark Cooper.
Clan captain Deven Sideroff was next on the scoreboard when he pulled off a tidy spin move in front of the Giants’ crease and sent a backhanded shot through McCollum’s pads.
Bow was once again forced into a defensive stance on a breakaway chance for Belfast’s, Ciaran Long, but the #89 was at the mercy of the goalpost as Bow showed him to a difficult angle.
Before the end of the period, Belfast saw Cooper ejected after he lay an aggressive hit on Seigo and was handed a five plus game penalty for checking to the head.
Alex Forbes sent a fourth goal past McCollum in the second period as he slipped the puck across the crease and it took a fortunate deflection off a Belfast stick into the net.
Jordan Kawaguchi put the Giants on the boards later in the period when he tipped Alex Roach’s shot high over Bow.
Long then put Belfast back to within two goals of the hosts after a back pass was mishandled by the Clan defence and he broke through to poke the puck through Bow’s pads.
Heard rounded off a five star win for the Clan at the end of the third period as he deked past McCollum and sent a fifth goal into the Belfast net to seal the points and an emphatic home victory.
