GAME RECAP

Glasgow Clan were bettered by the Belfast Giants in their last but one game of the Challenge Cup group phase, losing 3-1 at Braehead Arena.

The first period headlines were dominated by both teams’ goaltenders as the opening stanza went by at the Braehead Arena without a goal.

Clan netminder, Landon Bow came to the rescue of the hosts with a highlight-reel worthy save early in the game when he got his blocker to a sharp angle shot from Belfast’s #22, Zak Galambos.

In the second period, Belfast found the opening goal through a powerplay snap from Bobo Carpenter who struck while Mike Pelech served two minutes in the box for tripping.

Just under five minutes later, Belfast doubled their lead with a long-range snipe from former Western Michigan forward, Galambos.

Glasgow were at the mercy of Belfast netminder, Jackson Whistle throughout the remainder of the period as he shut the door on numerous Clan attacks.

Mitchell Heard thought he’d halved the deficit when he released a shot all alone at the backdoor, but it rolled off his blade just wide of the Giants’ net.

Clan defenceman Matt Stief did eventually halve the deficit when he snapped his first Clan goal of the season from between the hash marks, deep in the third period.

Scott Conway quickly responded for the visitors though as he clipped a first-time shot at the backdoor over the pads of Bow for the second powerplay goal for Belfast in the game.

Belfast saw out the remainder of the contest as they grabbed a win to close out the group phase of the challenge cup.

Clan captain Deven Sideroff made sure his side didn’t go down without a fight though, as he dropped the gloves in the closing minutes with Belfast’s Karl Boudrais in front of the Giants’ net.
