GAME RECAP

Liam Finlay scored the penalty shot to clinch victory for Glasgow Clan as they overcame Belfast Giants in a 2-1 game at Braehead Arena.

Cade Neilson got to redirect an early Finlay that needed Belfast goalie Tom McCollum to move it on as Clan looked to draw first blood.

Bow was equal to a chance from David Goodwin after a quick pass from Zack Galambos put the Giants forward into a good position.

Then Heard’s pass on the blue line released Schwartz, but a well struck shot saw the Giants goalie get his shoulder in the way of it to divert away from danger.

The second period continued in much the same way with both sides not able to break down either defence and beat the opposite goalie.

David Goodwin setting up Scott Conway for an early shot on Bow was well anticipated by the Clan goalie.

Bow again had to be on high alert as a period of Giants pressure saw Bobo Carpenter try to sneak the puck in at the right post, but the home netminder reacted well to move across his crease and shut the door.

Cade Neilson hit the side netting up the other end for Glasgow, while Josh Roach stung Bow’s gloves shortly after, but no success on either goal.

Then Glasgow’s chance of the game fell to Robert Lachowicz, fed by Deven Sideroff as he had a clear sight on goal, but found McCollum in the right spot to prevent it going past him.

The deadlock was finally broken five minutes into the third as Berry played in from the left, with Chris Martenet seeing his chance denied.  The loose puck fell to Sideroff who flashed into the net.

The celebrations had barely died down when the Giants levelled within a minute as Bobo Carpenter set up Pierre-Olivier Morin, who tapped into the net.

With the game on a knife edge, some big minutes and moments were needed and Bow certainly came up with one of those to deny Conway at his near post with eight minutes to go.

Finlay went close in the dying minutes of regulation, with McCollum making a timely block, while Bow was also on top form to deny Ben Lake late on.

Overtime couldn’t separate the teams and it came down to penalty shots where Finlay followed Heard, Ully and Sideroff before him and converting the one to make it three wins out of three in the league at home against the Giants.
