Preseason | Glasgow Clan 0 Dundee Stars 3

The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan were defeated in their opening preseason game by a well-organised Dundee Stars side under Scott Dutertre.

Glasgow brought the physicality early with captain, Deven Sideroff marking his return to the game after being forced out with injury last season with a great open ice hit to down Powell Connor.

Matt Spencer quickly gained admiration from the Clan fans with his tenacious style of play early in the game as he sent Josh Nelson and Evan Brand flying into the boards in the first 10 minutes.

Vladislav Pestov was the busier of the two netminders in the opening frame, but Liam Souliere made the only highlight reel-worthy save of the period, stopping Maxim Eliseev’s release from the left side with a kick save down low.

In the second period, the Clan were left short-benched after Miihkali Teppo was forced out the game after taking a hit down low and Matt Spencer was penalised heavily by the referees for a fight with Rasmus Nousiainen, who got off with just a two-minute minor.

Pestov was a thorn in the side for the Clan throughout the middle period, denying Ross Armour and Mick Messner on some close-range shots and frustrating the home side’s offence with his quick reflexes and dogged determination to eat the puck.

Both goaltenders were swapped out in the third to allow for some experience to the youth goalies as Dan Norton entered the crease for Glasgow while Dominick Jaglar started the final period for the Stars.

Armour continued to find trouble with the Dundee netminder despite the change, as Jaglar made a double stop on a pair of backhand attempts from the Clan’s new #19.

Norton impressed at the other end too, making a quick stop on Tyson Laventure with his blocker before gathering himself to keep the rebound away too.

Former Clan forward, Gary Haden opened the scoring shortly after though as he sliced a shot from the right wing past Norton to put Dundee ahead late.

New Stars captain, Travis Ewanyk doubled their advantage shortly after with a high and powerful shot after a great setup from Sebastian Bengtsson to find him in acres of space on the left wing.

Jonathan McBean then pulled a lovely move to dance past Steven Seigo as Dundee started to look unstoppable in the final 10 minutes of the game, but his shot was denied by a bold block from Josh Tarzwell.

McBean didn’t back down though as he chased after his own misplaced pass to create a scoring chance shortly after which he finished off with a tidy finish in close on Norton.

The game finished 3-0 to the visitors but was hardly a one-sided contest as Glasgow take many positives out of their performance, with the Stars now looking to build off their momentum into a new chapter in the club’s history.
