Fife Flyers vs Glasgow Clan

The Premier Sports Glasgow Clan blew away the Fife Flyers with a bullish five-goal shutout victory in the Fife Ice Arena in the Challenge Cup.

Cade Neilson opened the scoring for Glasgow as Brayden Burke slid the puck across the slot to the #94’s tape before he coolly dispatched a shot through Christian Purboo’s five hole.

Deven Sideroff doubled the Clan’s lead when he was sent to the ice in the slot before the puck rolled his way and he swung his stick from his knees and sent a shot into the top shelf in spectacular fashion.

The visitors maintained their lead with some exciting hockey with Richard Jarusek and Cade Neilson providing the physicality while Brett Neumann and Rylan Schwartz continued to push offensively.

Jeremy Masella laid a hit behind the net on Alex Forbes that Felix Pare took exception and dropped the gloves with Fife’s #26 in open ice.

In the second period, Glasgow kept on firing with Joe Hazeldine playing a perfect pass to the backdoor for Hugo Roy to tap home a third Clan goal of the game.

Roy then grabbed his second of the night as he rebounded his own shot on a broken play and fizzed it past Purboo before Burke did the same to expand the lead to five.

Ethan Somoza generated life on the front lines for Fife as he got on the breakaway shorthanded but Sami Aittokallio smothered the puck in what would be his toughest challenge in the game.

After 40 minutes, Aittokallio was replaced in the Clan net by young Brit, Lucas Brine and Purboo was taken out for Shane Owen, similar to the last meeting between the two in Braehead.

Brine had a strong 20 minutes in net for the Clan as he continued the 100% record for the visitors to see out a 5-0 victory.

This result sets up a blockbuster tie tomorrow night as the Clan now sit just one point behind tomorrow’s opponents, the Dundee Stars in the Challenge Cup group B.
