GAME RECAP

A five-point performance from Rylan Schwartz led the way as Glasgow Clan romped to a 7-2 win in Kirkcaldy over Fife Flyers.

The first part of this end-of-year double header brought smiles all over the faces of the travelling Purple Army fan base as they took what turned into a comfortable win over their rivals.

It took the Clan just under 11 minutes to open the scoring when Steven Seigo blasted a shot from the blue line that took a deflection on its way past Flyers netminder Shane Owen.

A couple of minutes later, Fife were level as they caught Glasgow on the break, with Keiran Craig spearheaded the move and Ryan Foss finishing with a one-timer.

But Corey Neilson’s team restored their lead as Chris McKay finally got his first goal for the club with a finish that hit the post on its way in, putting Clan 2-1 in front by the end of the first.

The visitors got the perfect start to the middle session as captain Deven Sideroff executed a terrific finish as he burst through the Fife zone and beating Owen with his shot.

Landon Bow, playing his first game in net for Glasgow since picking up an injury in Sheffield over a fortnight ago, made an excellent double save shortly after to keep the Flyers on one goal.

Clan extended their lead as Schwartz picked up his second goal in three games with a delightful wraparound to make it 4-1.

Then Liam Finlay added a fifth on the halfway mark as he slotted home a well-struck shot to make the advantage a healthier one.

Massimo Carozza pulled one back for the Flyers a little later to narrow the deficit, but giving them plenty to do going into the third period.

Schwartz got his second goal of the night – and fifth point of the evening – as his interplay with Mitchell Heard led to a sixth in the opening minutes of the final stanza.

This was added to by Tyson McLellan, who swept a magnificent seventh which led to Owen leaving the ice and being replaced in the Fife net by Janis Voris.

Simon Després sent his blue line shot screaming past the replacement Flyers goalie for his fourth goal in four games with five to go, while Austin Farley picked up a late consolation for the home side, who head to Braehead Arena to complete the double header and 2024 on Tuesday.
