GAME REPORT: DUNDEE STARS 6 GLASGOW CLAN 2

The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan closed out their opening weekend in the Challenge Cup with a sobering 6-2 loss on the road to the Dundee Stars.

Exactly 100 seconds into the game, Miikhali Teppo claimed his first goal in Clan colours after a scramble in the crease spat the puck out into the slot for the Finnish defenceman to slam it low into the net to open the scoring.

Dundee responded at the five minute mark through Justin Bean when he released a quick snap from the top of the circle that fizzed straight into the top corner of the Clan net.

Benjamin Almquist then flipped the scoreline less than two minutes later when he smartly deked past Chris McKay before slipping the puck past Sami Aittokallio in a slick move to give the hosts the lead for the first time on the night.

Tristin Langan got the Clan straight back into the game though as he drove in from the left side and dangled into the crease but was denied by Jarrett Fiske.

Brayden Burke then put a shot on net that spilled just out of the crease and was met by Langan who made no mistake this time as he forced it over the line past Fiske to level it again.

In the second period, Glasgow captain, Deven Sideroff did well to battle through the Stars zone and get a shot off but he was tripped by Fiske in the process and his shot trailed just wide.

The Dundee netminder was then the central focus of the game as the Clan started to build momentum with a barrage of shots on net from Cade Neilson and Torran Anderson on a 5-on-3 powerplay but they couldn’t find a way past the American.

Keanu Yamamoto then gave the Stars the lead once again when he backhanded a slow shot that trickled past Aittokallio after a bursting drive up the left by Kameron Keilly.

Kris Inglis then claimed his first goal of the season to double his side’s lead as Dundee continued to find pockets of space against the Clan’s momentum.

Keanu Yamamoto quickly made it 5-2 before Corey Neilson sent Lucas Brine in to replace the fatigued Aittokallio just after the half-way point in the game.

Brine held off the Stars for the remainder of the period and continued to impress into the third as he smothered efforts from Bradley Schoonbaert and Craig Moore.

In the third period, the Clan went all out on offense to try and claw their way into point contention in the game with Brayden Burke strirking the crossbar in the closing minutes.

The Clan’s efforts were moot in the end though as Hampus Olsson closed out the night with a goal in the final minute for the Stars to end the game a 6-2 win for the hosts.
