Dundee Stars vs Glasgow Clan

The Premier Sports Glasgow Clan claimed a thrilling win over the Dundee Stars to secure qualification from the group stage of the Challenge Cup.

Rob Lachowicz put Glasgow in front after just 90 seconds of play when he tipped a long-range shot from Deven Sideroff past Jarrett Fiske.

Darien Kielb quickly double the Clan’s lead with a smart move through the Stars’ zone before ripping a shot from distance that sailed high into the net.

Former Clan forward, Matt Berry then created a quickflash opportunity for the hosts when he intercepted a pass on the edge of Glasgow’s zone, but his breakaway effort was kicked wide by Sami Aittokallio.

In the second period, the Clan continued to dominate possession as well as the shot count. The momentum eventually paid off when Jason Fram sliced a shot from deep to put Glasgow ahead by three on the powerplay.

Before the end of the period, Berry put the Stars on the board when he burst up ice on the back of an offensive turnover by the Clan and forced a shot through the pads of Aittokallio.

Keanu Yamamoto got the Stars back to within one in the second period when he squeezed a shot through a narrow angle as the hosts picked up momentum of their own.

Otto Nieminen nearly tied the game up when he got on the end of a loose puck at the backdoor with Aittokallio sprawling but he couldn’t steer a shot on target.

Jason Fram was denied at the other end when he had two hacks and whacks at a rebounding puck but Fiske managed to direct both efforts off target.

A quick break allowed Tristin Langan in all alone in the dying minutes for the Clan and the Canadian delivered a cool shot through the fivehole to seal the two points for Glasgow.

The Clan saw out the remaining seconds of the game to claim a 4-2 win and secure their spot in the next round of the Challenge Cup one way or another.

Tomorrow’s game between Belfast and Dundee will decide Glasgow’s final position in the standings with a Giants win seeing Glasgow play Nottingham in an elimination game and a Stars win automatically putting the Clan through to the semi finals.
