GAME RECAP

Glasgow Clan’s hopes of extending their recent winning run to seven were halted as Dundee Stars saw out the weekend with an 8-5 win on Tayside.

After Saturday’s 3-2 victory for the Clan in the first of the double header, both sides met again, but it was the Stars that claimed the points – their first win in six attempts over Glasgow.

They got the opening marker in the first period when Xavier Pouliot was first to react to a loose puck and promptly despatched his shot in the net to open the scoring.

Dundee doubled their lead almost five minutes into the second period when Brendan Harms tapped in a rebound on the powerplay as they asserted themselves in the scoring.

Glasgow responded almost immediately as captain Deven Sideroff finished his chance past Stars netminder Richard Sabol to reduce the gap.

Tyson McLellan and Zach Tsekos dropped the gloves as tempers began to fray in the middle session, with both copping a five minute major for their troubles.

But Simon Deprés pulled Clan level near the halfway point of the game as he slammed his shot into the net from an initial Sideroff chance.

But parity was short-lived as Brett Gravelle fired from the slot to restore the home side’s lead a couple of minutes later.

Jake Elmer made it 4-2 on the powerplay as he executed a finish at the back post from Spencer Naas’ pass and Dundee were two ahead again.

Clan made sure they weren’t out of the game as McLellan – fresh from a goal and two assists on Saturday – added his second finish of the weekend with a shorthanded breakaway.

After a topsy-turvy second period, Glasgow began the third in the worst possible way as Kameron Kielly made it 5-3 just 27 seconds after the restart.

Stars punished on the powerplay again as Harms notched his second of the night, really opening a gap up as the game headed into its final furlong.

Liam Finlay on the powerplay pulled one back inside the final five minutes, with Matt Berry picking up the assist, his first point as a Clan player.

Visiting goalie Lucas Brine was pulled with under three minutes to go, with Elmer getting his second and Dundee’s seventh of the game.

And while Reece Kelly picked up a rare goal with a smart finish, Harms completed his hat-trick in the final seconds to wrap up a good evening’s work for the Stars.
