COVENTRY BLAZE VS GLASGOW CLAN

The Premier Sports Glasgow Clan were beaten on the road as the Coventry Blaze ended the Clan’s hopes six-point week with a 2-1 victory in the Skydome for the hosts.

Grayson Constable put Coventry in front on home ice early doors on the penalty kill after slipping past Lucas Brine and netting a shorthanded opener for the Blaze.

Brine was then forced to make an awkward save up high with his elbow as Constable continued to pester the Brit netminder with shots on net.

Alex Forbes fought his way into a scoring position at the other end as he wrestled with Archie Hazeldine in the slot before wriggling free a shot which was tipped over by Mat Robson.

Brine then made a pad save down low late in the period before Artem Buzoverya struck the bar as he swept the loose rebound towards the Glasgow net.

Brine denied Matthew Gleason on a backdoor chance to close out the period with Coventry holding a one goal lead, but Grant Mismash quickly made that two in the second.

A quick shot from the high slot by the former Belfast Giant fizzed high into the net to double the hosts’ lead shortly before Hugo Roy struck the pipe in a relatively actionless 20 minutes in the middle frame.

In the third, Brett Neumann halved the deficit as the Clan started their chase back into points contention in the game with a first time finish from close range.

Felix Pare darted his way to the crease on a smart dashing play through the Blaze zone but the puck bobbled just before the net front and his shot attempt lept over Robson’s pads but trailed wide of the Iron frame.

Neumann continued to cause problems in defence for Coventry for the remainder of the period alongside Richard Jarusek and Cade Neilson.

Blaze netminder, Robson did well to hold off the Clan offense though and even saw them through two minutes of six-on-five in the closing plays as the home side took all the points in a 2-1 victory.
