Challenge Cup | Fife Flyers 4 Glasgow Clan 3 [AOT]

The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan were forced beyond regulation for the third consecutive time in this Challenge Cup campaign, with the Fife Flyers taking the second point this time around after another lengthy night in Kirkcaldy.

David Madsen coughed up the puck in his own zone as he lost an edge trying to stretch for a misplaced pass, allowing Max Coyle to pick up possession for Fife who fed Mike Petizian for a first time blast which opened the scoring.

Shortly after, Cole Kodsi made a great lung-bursting run up the left side before lobbing the puck into the slot for Josh Tarzwell to bat out the air and level the score at one.

In the second period, a quick passing move between Tarzwell and Cade Neilson opened up the Flyers’ defence, allowing Kodsi to mosey into the crease of Dominic Groh and tap home the second Glasgow goal of the night.

Michael Drabek then put in a dogged shift to will the puck into the Clan zone short handed, before feeding Cole Stewart in on a breakaway which the youngster buried past Souliere.

In the final period, Liam Souliere leaped off of his line to pluck a soaring puck out the air after a Petizian shot took a wicked deflection and looped high into the blue paint.

At the other end, Neilson reinstated Glasgow’s advantage as Kodsi found him in a pocket of space on the right-hand side and he released a perfect shot into the top corner to bag a third Clan goal in the game,

Fife responded almost immediately with Drabek redirecting a Petizian shot to send it past Souliere, setting up another grand stand finish in overtime.

It only took 50 seconds for the Flyers to seal the two points as Joseph Pierce rounded the Clan net and put an awkward shot from a tight angle off the post, before it bobbled off the back of Souliere and into the net.

Glasgow left Kirkcaldy with one point in tow as they now prepare for their Motorpoint Elite League opener against the Sheffield Steelers at the Braehead Arena tomorrow.
