The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan lost to the Cardiff Devils in their second road game of the weekend as they picked up their fourth consecutive one-goal loss in the Motorpoint Elite League.

Panu Mieho was dumped to the ice by a crushing hit from Reece Harsch in the opening minute to kickstart the game with some vim.

The Clan looked dangerous on the attack early, with Cole Kodsi firing two consecutive shots from close-range at Christian Stoever’s net on a three-on-two break, but he couldn’t force it over the line.

Keaton Pehrson was then dubiously assessed a two-minute minor penalty for slashing despite making minimal contact on Ryan Barrow.

Kohen Olischefski pounced on the resulting powerplay and slotted home the opener after a nice cycle around the offensive zone left him unmarked on the right side.

Stoever did well to defend his crease later in the period as he snatched a high shot from Mick Messner out the air before pushing a Ross Armour redirect onto the post in Glasgow’s best chance of the game so far.

The Clan were far more threatening going forward than the Devils in the opening period, but couldn’t find that finishing touch. That streak continued into the second with Josh Tarzwell coming up empty handed on a number of great looks at net.

Joey Martin punished the visitors’ lack of clinical efficiency before the second interval as he controlled a cross ice pass nicely at the backdoor and sliced a great shot past Rasmus Tirronen to double the Welsh side’s advantage.

Mieho snapped a shot from the blue line on a quick entry to the offensive zone which tested Tirronen early in the final frame, but the Finn got a pad down to kick it clear.

Bayley Harewood had a wide open look at net from right in front when he received a pass from the corner with no Clan players near him, but he over-handled the puck and couldn’t direct a shot at net before it was poked out from under him.

Harsch struck the crossbar for the Clan as their offensive woes continued to frustrate them. Eventually Rylan Schwartz did get them on the boards though as he tipped a Jake Johnson shot to redirect it past Stoever in the final three minutes.

Mike Sirant then elected to pull Tirronen and go 6-on-5 for the final two minutes, but Glasgow once again couldn’t produce a late equaliser and were subject to another one-goal defeat in league play.
