SIGNING: Martenet jets in for the Clan

The Glasgow Clan are delighted to announce the signing of six-foot-seven defenceman Chris Martenet for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

The 28-year-old American was a round 4 pick (#103 overall) for the Dallas Stars in the NHL draft back in 2015 and comes to Glasgow with over 300 games in experience in the ECHL.

Martenet arrived in Glasgow on Tuesday and is looking forward to the next phase in his career as he looks ahead.

“I’ve heard a lot of great things about the city and the fan base so I can’t wait to get started and playing my part,” he said.

“I’ve played with a few of the guys on the team already so it’s nice to come in and have some familiar faces in the room already.

“It’s an exciting time for me and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone plus get some games under my belt too.”

Martenet spent last season in Czechia, where he played alongside current Clan captain Deven Sideroff and netminder Landon Bow at Rytíři Kladno, making 51 appearances, scoring twice and adding two more assists.

His career in the ECHL has seen him play with Idaho Steelheads, Brampton Beast, Indy Fuel, Toledo Walleye and Newfoundland Growlers.

He can count current Clan players Mitchell Heard and Mike Pelech among his former team-mates as well as ex-defenceman Tim Shoup.

Clan head coach Corey Neilson outlined Martenet’s qualities and how his skillset will fit into the team.

“Chris is a huge defensive defensemen who was a high draft pick and has played at a very high level in the Czech first league,” he said.

“Although our PK shows great promise we are still struggling to avoid conceding in that area and we expect that his length, competitiveness and ability will help us to improve that part of our game.

“We expect him to fit into the group seamlessly and provide a much-needed competition for ice-time to our D corps, plus he’s a former team-mate of Deven and Landon so comes highly recommended.

“As a group we show very solid signs of a high-end competitive team but we are committed to making these tough calls to better our roster.  I believe Chris is the first step in achieving this.”

Martenet will wear the #25 jersey.
