SIGNING: Haden set for ‘dream’ move

June 20, 2022

Glasgow Clan sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West are delighted to announce the signing of forward Gary Haden for the 2022/23 season.

The left-handed forward arrives from the University of Alberta as a winner of the USports Canada West division, where they also won the play-offs earlier this year.

And he says he’s about to embark on a dream as he moves on to the next stage of his ice hockey career.

“It’s my first steps into pro hockey and I feel like I’m strong and it’s right for me personally,” Haden said.

“I had a good year last year and it’s always been a dream of mine to travel the world and play hockey.

“When the opportunity came up, it was a non-brainer and I’ll work hard to be ready to make a good impression when I come to Scotland.

“It didn’t take me long to make my decision.  After having a few conversations with Malcolm and watched some things online, I felt it was a great opportunity for me.

“Seeing the games and hearing the fans comes across as a very energetic crowd, who travel well, but are also awesome to be a part of.

“For my first pro experience, having great fans is a good thing to have and that energy is always on your side, which will hopefully help us to lots of wins this season.”

Prior to Haden’s successful year in Alberta, he made just under 250 appearances in the WHL, icing for Medicine Hat Tigers, Saskatoon Blades and Victoria Kings.

In 248 total appearances, he scored 82 goals and made 92 assists combined for 174 points in four years at that level.

It was in the WHL where Clan’s head coach Malcolm Cameron first spotted his newest player.

“I first got to see Gary in 2014 as a young player when we drafted him with the Regina Pats in the WHL,” he said.

“He really impressed us with his energy, quickness and his tenacity and went on to have a great career in the WHL and had a good year with the University of Alberta as their leading scorer.

“Gary’s got good speed, he can finish and can fulfil a multitude of roles and he just works hard so I’m really pleased to add him to our roster.”

Haden will wear the #23 jersey for the Clan in 2022/23 and joins John Dunbar, Craig Peacock, Jordan Cownie, Stephen Dixon, Liam Stenton, Gergely Tóth and Zach Driscoll on the roster for next season.
