Glasgow’s Braehead Clan took a point from Dundee Stars in the Gardiner Conference – but lost the game after it went all the way to penalty shots.

Matt Haywood opened the scoring after six minutes to put Clan in front which was followed by Matt Beca adding a second to put Braehead in a good early position.

Kevin Hart got one back for Marc LeFebvre’s side shortly after, but Matt Keith struck seconds later to restore the two goal cushion at the end of the first.

The lead was extended to three goals three minutes into the middle session when Scott Aarssen found the net to make it 4-1.

But Dundee began the fightback a couple of minutes later through Matt White as they looked to fight their way back into the game.

Kevin Bruijsten brought the Stars to within one followed by Mikael Lidhammar a minute later as Braehead’s lead was wiped out by the second break.

The Stars took the lead for the first time in the game 11 minutes into the third period as Bruijsten nabbed his second of the game.

But Matt Haywood ensured Clan were coming home with at least a point as he equalised, taking the game into overtime, where both sides couldn’t find a winner in the extra period.

Penalty shots were needed and five out of six were scored between the two teams with Vinny Scarsella scoring the clincher to confirm victory for the Stars.
