REPORT: Clan suffer loss in Stars rematch on the road
A frustrating night on the road saw Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan end up beaten 5-3 at Dundee Stars.
A breathless first period saw chances at both ends as the two teams kept the energy levels up from Saturday’s game in Glasgow.
But it was Dundee who got the opening goal inside the opening four minutes as Alexandre Ranger set up Quinn O’Brien, who fired it high into Starrett’s net.
Clan were level when Roy lashed his effort into the net, sending it flying over Preece’s glove to equalise.
Soon the visitors were ahead when Charlie Combs was dispossessed on his own blue line, allowing Colin Campbell to take off, squaring for Braylon Shmyr to score his 10th goal for the Clan.
The Dundee man made amends for his earlier error when Kalvis Ozols’ one-timer hit the back board, falling for Combs, who stabbed in from close range to level.
Combs was a constant threat for the Clan when he struck the bar with a chance, but Glasgow started to run into some penalty trouble, from where Dundee struck to move in front.
It was Ozols with the finish as he took a pass from Combs and Starrett was beaten for a third time to make it an interesting contest going into the third period.
Omar Pacha’s men were keen to increase their lead as the final sessions played out, with Combs testing Starrett twice and one from Dorowicz which was well held by Clan’s goalie.
Colton Yellow Horn pulled the Clan level with a shot into the top left hand corner of the net on the powerplay as Craig Garrigan saw on a hooking call to set up a tense final ten minutes.
But another five-on-three powerplay led to Ozols letting rip with another chance that edged Stars ahead once more.
Cody Sol was ejected from the game late on for his protests over a penalty on Stars’ D-man Kyle Haas as frustrations boiled over in the latter stages.
Gabriel Desjardins tucked in a fifth after play restarted and there were further ramifications as Roy, Nolan LaPorte and Mitch Jones all let their emotions get the better of them, seeing their nights end a little earlier than planned.
Kyle Haas added a late sixth to end the night for the Stars.
