A double from Rasmus Bjerrum helped Glasgow Clan secure a third straight win as they took a 3-2 win from Fife Flyers.
It was a second win in three games over the Kirkcaldy rivals as Clan built on last week’s two excellent wins over Cardiff Devils and Belfast Giants with a testing, but pleasing outcome.
It was the first meeting of the two Scottish rivals in almost three months and there was a debut for new signing Guillaume Doucet following his arrival earlier this week.
However the night didn’t start well for the Clan as Joe Basaraba opened the scoring with a wrist shot that flew past Joel Rumpel in the visitors’ goal.
Clan got their equaliser almost at the end of the opening period when Basaraba took a seat in the penalty box, which led to Pete Russell’s men finding a way through.
Gerard Hanson set up Rasmus Bjerrum, who scored at the back post to claim a powerplay goal and tie up the game by the end of the first.
Just over three minutes had passed in the middle stanza when Glasgow went ahead, with Scott Tanski finding himself with a clear run on Fife goalie Shane Owen and applying the finish.
Then Clan bagged a third to open a two-goal lead when a congested area in front of the crease led to Bjerrum finding a space to slot the puck home.
Fife laboured as they tried to get themselves back into contention, but gave themselves a lifeline with a minute and a half to go.
Another from Basaraba closed the gap to one to set up a nervy finale as Fife found a way back, but for them, it wasn’t to be as Clan hung on for a big victory over their biggest rivals.
