SIGNING: Blueliner Sol cements Clan return

July 24, 2023

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the return of Canadian defenceman Cody Sol for the 2023/24 season.

Sol is coming back to the Elite League after a year in the Alps Hockey League with Fassa Falcons and a move that will be a popular one for the fans.

The 32-year-old is equally pleased to be a Clan man again and believes there is plenty to be upbeat about.

“I’m excited to be coming back to Glasgow,” he said. “I really enjoyed my time there two years ago and with the new ownership and direction, there’s plenty to be positive about.

“I can’t wait to get the chance to play in front of the Purple Army in a great arena and in a great city.

“I’m looking forward to getting started with a new season in the Elite League.”

Sol’s hard-hitting, no-nonsense style won him many fans when he played in Glasgow in the 2021-22 season.

In his first spell, he made a total of 56 appearances, scoring three times, adding 12 assists, totalling 15 points, with 149 penalty minutes.

The 6’8” blueliner took himself to Italy last season where he had 38 appearances, scoring twice with 20 assists.

His experience has also seen him play in almost 550 games in the ECHL for Fort Wayne Komets, Toledo Walleye, Cincinnati Cyclones and Florida Everblades.

Clan head coach Jason Morgan reckons there’s a part of Sol’s game which goes unnoticed as he welcomed his latest signing to the team.

“I’m pleased to welcome Cody back to Glasgow,” he said. “He’s a player with size and leadership as well as a physical presence on the blue line.

“He’s hard to play against and will play a key role in our penalty kill.  He’s someone with a good shot and I think his offensive play is often underrated.

“I’m glad to have him with us this year and I know he’s pleased to be returning to the Clan hockey family.”

Sol will resume wearing the #44 jersey and joins that roster which includes Robert Lachowicz, Alex Forbes, Ryan Harrison, Jordan Cownie, Gary Haden, Philippe Sanche, Jordan Buesa, Charlie Combs, Jake Kielly, Dyson Stevenson, Antti Karjalainen, Nate Kallen and Bryce Reddick for 2023/24.
