Matt Beca struck in overtime to complete a four-point weekend as Glasgow’s Braehead Clan defeated current champions Sheffield Steelers 3-2 at Ice Sheffield.

It was Clan’s second victory over a team in the Erhardt Conference this season and their first on opposition ice this season, but they were made to work for it.

Guillaume Desbiens saw a penalty shot given after only two minutes, but it was saved by Clan goalie Michal Zajkowski as the visitors got some early luck.

And it was Ryan Finnerty’s side that broke the deadlock 41 seconds later when Mike Hammond slid the puck in low to get on the scoresheet.

Clan then added a second a few minutes later when Scott Pitt got a tip on Matt Beca’s shot after a turnover to pick up his second goal of the weekend, beating Steelers goalie Ervins Mustukovs.

Colton Fretter got a tip on a John Armstrong pass to pull one back for the home side as they started to claw back into Braehead’s lead.

Then they added a second a minute from the end of the opening period as Andreas Valdix as he sent one home from a Ben O’Connor assist.

Both teams couldn’t be separated for the remainder of regulation time, which meant three-on-three overtime was needed to try and find a winner.

And it came as Steelers lost control of the puck, with Clan breaking quickly and it was Pitt who fed Beca to clinch a massive winner for Ryan Finnerty and his team.
