Glasgow’s Braehead Clan suffered defeat in their opening league game of the new season as they were beaten 3-1 by league new boys Milton Keynes Lightning.

Lightning had an early chance when Francis Verrault-Paul was denied by an excellent save from Clan goalie Ryan Nie.

Christian Isackson was penalised, leading to a penalty shot for the home side. However MK were thwarted as Nie scooped the puck into his glove for the save.

Pete Russell’s side got their just reward as Lewis Hook opened the scoring with an unassisted effort, giving MK a goal lead just over halfway through the first.

They got their second with six seconds left on the clock of the first as Ashley Tait got his first goal for his new team.

Clan got themselves back into the game with a finish from Jacob Doty barely two minutes into the middle session.

The game at this point was flowing from one end to the next as Nie and MK counterpart Miika Wiikman were kept busy.

Another from Guillaume Doucet before the midway point of the game reopened the two-goal gulf between the teams, taking them to the end of the period.

Despite chances to claw their back, Braehead couldn’t find a way past Wiikman, with Russell and his men celebrating their second straight league win.

Clan now head to the Skydome where they take on Coventry Blaze tomorrow, face off 5.15pm.
