Despite a late push, it wasn’t to be for the Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Cardiff Devils.

Fresh from a 3-1 victory over the Manchester Storm on Tuesday, Malcolm Cameron’s men looked to make it two wins in two days against a Devils side unbeaten in six.

The first period proved to be a difficult one for the home side as they were pinned back into their own zone by an energetic, but shorthanded Devils side.

This pressure paid dividends as the visitors took the lead with one second left on the powerplay. Jake Coughler was found free on the left before releasing a snapshot high past Shane Starrett.

Seconds after returning to full strength the Devils doubled their lead.  Breaking on the left Justin Crandall drove into Clan territory before firing across the face of goal, leaving Coughler to divert into the net for his second of the night.

The middle session was to be a much brighter affair for the men in purple as they started on the front foot, forcing Taran Kozun into numerous saves.

With nine minutes left of the second the Clan were back in it as Colton Yellow Horn’s pass found Mitch Jones, who released an unstoppable one timer into the top shelf.

Facing an offence desperate for a leveller, Kozun continued his heroics in the Devils goal, keeping their lead intact with a number of impressive stops.

A minute into the third, the Clans hopes of a comeback were made that tougher as the visitors raced back into a two-goal lead.

Collecting the puck outside the crease, Stephen Dixon rounded Starrett before backhanding into an empty net.

However, this lead wouldn’t last long as the Clan persistence paid off on the powerplay. With expertise, Tim Shoup collected the puck in front of the blue line before slapping it low into the bottom left corner to narrow the gap to 3-2.

Despite pulling the goalie in a last gasp attempt, the Clan couldn’t find a winner as the Devils defence held strong to claim all three points.
