Braehead Clan’s hopes of picking up where they left off at the weekend were dealt a blow as Cardiff Devils left Glasgow with a 6-2 win.

Clan had a few chances in the first period, but found Cardiff’s defence in stubborn mood, particularly netminder Thomas Murdy, in for the injured Ben Bowns.

The Devils goalie made a phenomenal double save to prevent Alex Leavitt and Matt Keith in the first period to preserve their goal.

But when the opener came, it arrived at the other end as Andrew Lord sent a shot into Michal Zajkowskui’s top corner after being set up by Layne Ulmer.

A period to forget followed as Cardiff took control of the game with Guillaume Doucet grabbing a second goal before Matthew Myers scrambled home a third.

The confidence began to flow through the Devils players and another followed as Lord buried a close range effort to open the gap to four goals.

Luke Pigott added a fifth as Clan fans protested a tripping call on Craig Peacock, but the marker stood as Devils made it really comfortable for themselves.

Braehead managed to get on the score sheet as Matt Beca combined with Corey Cowick before finally breaching Murdy.

Doucet showed great work to beat Zajkowski for his second of the game and although Cowick added a second, the game was beyond them at that point.
