Glasgow’s Braehead Clan ended their schedule of games in 2016 in defeat as league challengers Belfast Giants took the points in a 5-3 victory in Northern Ireland.

 

Clan had the lead in the opening 20 seconds when Daniel Åhsberg scored his second goal in two games to give the away team an early advantage.

 

It was cancelled out by David Rutherford who equalised for the home team three minutes later after being set up by Alex Foster.

 

Colin Shields added a second for the Giants after Rutherford turned provider, but the game was level again as former Belfast favourite Craig Peacock equalised at the end of the first.

 

The Giants went ahead again within the opening two minutes of the middle session when James Desmarais fired their third goal.

 

This was followed quickly by Foster as Clan trailed by two goals and having something of a task on their hands t o pull themselves back.

Alex Leavitt provided it as Braehead got to within one midway through the second, but Foster’s second and Belfast’s fifth shortly after sealed the points.
