Clan are back on the road for today’s On This Day and it’s a couple of tough venues to visit as the teams visit Belfast Giants and Sheffield Steelers.
It was a Challenge Cup double for the Clan, but how will they fare against two of the top sides in the Elite League?
2016: Belfast Giants 5 Braehead Clan 1 (Challenge Cup)
It was on the bus then on the ferry to cross the sea to Northern Ireland to take on Belfast Giants in the Challenge Cup.
But they found a Giants more than up to the task as they put five past Braehead to take the points at the SSE Arena.
Derrick Walser’s side pushed ahead with two goals in the opening ten minutes as Blair Riley and Chris Higgins each found a way past Michal Zajkowski.
Matt Beca pulled one back for the Clan to halve the deficit, but Belfast had gone 4-1 up by the end of the second, courtesy of Michael Forney and Mark Garside.
Higgins got a second in the final frame to apply the cherry on top as Giants sailed away to victory, before Clan sailed home in misery.
2017: Sheffield Steelers 3 Braehead Clan 2 (Challenge Cup)
It was off to Sheffield four years ago as John Tripp’s Clan team made their way to the Fly DSA Arena on the hunt for Challenge Cup glory.
It was an unusual game that saw very little in the first period as both teams cancelled each other as they felt their way into the game.
The second period is where it happened with all five of the game’s goals coming in the central 20 minutes spell.
John Armstrong finally broke the deadlock on the powerplay after 32 minutes before the next four goals came in the space of the next two minutes and 18 seconds.
Jonathan Phillips put Steelers two up before Clan hit back in quick fashion through captain Ville Hamalainen and Ryan Potulny.
Andres Valdix scored the game’s winner with 15 seconds to go of the middle stanza as they held on for victory.
