NEWS: Stenton helps GB to bronze in Brasov

December 20, 2021

Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan defenceman Liam Stenton captained the Great Britain Under 20’s team to a bronze medal in the World Championships.

The 20-year-old, who is on a two-way deal with Solway Sharks, scored two points through the course of the week as GB ended the group in third place.

But after a bright start to the week with victories over Spain and Lithuania, it ended in disappointment as they lost to Korea then hosts Romania before ending the campaign with a 3-2 loss to Italy, who eventually won Division II Group A.

Coach Martin Grubb, who also coaches Solway, preferred to reflect on the positives of the week.

“We only had two guys on our team who had experienced winning a medal and four who had played at a World Championship before,” he told Ice Hockey UK.

“Add in the pandemic and even the uncertainty about travelling to Romania, we at least were able to win a medal.

“Although we are disappointed at the colour, the players will learn and grow from this experience.”
