NEWS: Jones buzzing for Devils play-off date

April 19, 2022

Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan defenceman Mitch Jones says he and the team are ‘champing at the bit’ for the play-offs this weekend.

Clan take on Cardiff Devils in a two-legged quarter final, starting in Wales on Saturday before completing the series at Braehead Arena on Sunday (face off 6pm).

And Jones has also had his eyes opened about what these games mean to the fans as excitement builds for the big games.

“It’s something we’ve been looking forward to in making it, for the first step then progressing as far as we can,” he said. “We’re champing at the bit for it and we’re ready to go for it.

“I see what it means to the fans, when I’m reading on Twitter there’s a bus full already and looking for more people to fill a second one. There’s definitely a real buzz about it.

“Having that huge support come with us means a lot and we saw the last time we were in Cardiff, how many were there and the noise they made so it’s great to see that’ll happen again.

“It’s one of those things where, going head to head, we’ve let some games go, but as long as we show up, play our game and take care of things, it could be anyone’s game.”

Jones has a decent scoring record, netting four times in the six meetings with the Devils in the regular season.

He’d love to break out of his recent drought, but knows full well that the team cannot take a night off and revealed how it was important to end the regular season on a high.

“I’ve been in kind of a slump in terms of scoring recently so I hope I can find that touch again going into this, with the record I have against them,” he added.

“I’ve been producing in other ways, as a defenceman and having good D is the key to good offence.

“The play-off system here certainly is different to what I’m used to so there’s no margin for error. You have to bring your best game and if you lose one, you don’t get the chance to make it up later on.

“You don’t want to go into the play-offs on a dip so the fact we’re going in after winning the last three in the past week is huge for us.

“Malcolm stressed the importance of them to us and how we had to win them, which we did so we’re going into this weekend riding on a high.”
