Glasgow Clan defenceman Jordan Heywood has announced his retirement from the sport.

The 31-year-old Canadian joined the club last summer from the German DEL2, where he had spent three season’s split between Dresdner Eislöwen and the Heilbronner Falken.

Prior to moving to Europe, Jordan had played for Merrimack College of NCAA Division 1, plus the Bakersfield Condors and Reading Royals of the ECHL.

While with the Clan, Heywood attended Glasgow Caledonian University where he carried out a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

The Regina, Saskatchewan native played 35 times for Glasgow, scoring 6 times and assisting in a further 14 in what’s turned out to be his last campaign.

Despite having to make this emotional decision, Jordan spoke warmly of his career and his time with the Clan.

“It was a difficult decision to retire because I love the game of hockey and it has brought so many amazing opportunities.

“However, it is the right time for myself and my family. The cities I have played in have each provided something special and memorable, and my wife and I will look back on these years with fondness.

“A special thanks for the Glasgow Clan organisation and Clan fans for their support this past season! It made our time in Glasgow truly memorable.”
