Glasgow’s Braehead Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty says he won’t be too hard on the team after the penalty shots loss to Dundee Stars on Sunday.

Clan let a 4-1 lead slip on Tayside, but lost 6-5 after the shootout, confirming a three point weekend following on from Saturday’s excellent 5-2 home win over Fife Flyers.

However Finnerty insists he won’t spend too much reflecting on this defeat as he eyes up the visit of Belfast Giants on Saturday.

“We got a point the hard way on Sunday and I’m frustrated we gave up a three goal lead, but we got a late one to salvage a point at least,” the coach said.

“When it goes to penalty shots, it can go anyway. Dundee were resilient and scored some timely goals, so I’m not going to beat the team up too much after this.

“They deserved to get the two points and Marc’s team did well to come back. We’re not going to dissect this too much as we look ahead to our next game.

“The goal that hurt us was the one their second goal, scored in the next shift after Scott Aarssen had put us 4-1 ahead. If we could have got back in our flow, we could have went on to bury them.

“It gave them some life when it was done and dusted. From there, we made some costly errors. One was from a face off, with a good shot and the fourth was a mistake.

“They outworked us in the last 12 minutes of that second period and they got everything from hard work, while we couldn’t quite get back to that level.

“I was confident going into the third as I feel like we’re a good third period team. In the end we lost a point we shouldn’t have and we’ll look at it as we move on to a stretch of games at home.
