NEWS: Finnerty sees positives in Caps OT loss

September 19, 2016

NEXT HOME GAME: Braehead Clan are back in action THIS WEDNESDAY against the Edinburgh Capitals (7:30pm face-off). Tickets are available NOW via TICKETMASTER, by calling 0844 499 1700 or direct at the Braehead Arena box office.

Braehead Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty saw positives in his side’s 3-2 overtime loss to Edinburgh Capitals on Sunday – but lamented another defeat.

Clan have still yet to win a competitive game this season and focus now turns to Wednesday’s rematch against Michal Dobron’s side at Braehead Arena.

But the coach still recognises there is still work to be done before the Capitals come to Glasgow, leaving him with some food for thought.

“It was a slight improvement and looking at the big picture, it’s still a point on the road in the Challenge Cup,” he said.

“Our powerplay is starting to show signs of life, moved the puck around and created some chances so I’ll maybe tinker with the other one to try and get something.

“When we got on the forecheck, we created chances and gave ourselves an opportunity in the opposing zone.

“Edinburgh are a much improved team from last season, but it’s an overtime loss and we keep finding ways to lose right now.

“We have to play a more up tempo game and this team has to find its identity. It’s pretty vanilla and it’s not the product we want.”

And Finnerty says he’s glad the Challenge Cup rematch with the Caps is coming up soon.

He added: “I think it’s a good thing we play them again so soon. It breaks the week up and gives us a chance to redeem ourselves a little in front of our own fanbase.

“We’ve got a couple of days of practice leading up to then and you have to find positives in times like this.

“We’re not a team that’s used to losing, but you have to find ways of staying upbeat and not dig the hole any deeper.

“We get them back home on Wednesday and a chance to take three out of four in the head to head series and that’s what we’re looking to do now.”
