SIGNING: Dunbar first for 2022/23

June 3, 2022

Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the signing of forward John Dunbar for the 2022/23 season.

The 30-year-old is a familiar face to the Purple Army, having played for Guildford Flames mostly since 2017, apart for a season in Germany with Rostock Piranhas in the country’s third tier during 2020-21.

Now Dunbar is coming to the Clan for the new season and can’t wait to be “on the other side” of the fans cheers.

“Speaking with Malcolm, I think it’s going to be a really good fit and I like the direction the team is headed in,” he said. “I’m excited to be part of it.

“It worked out for both parties in the end and the time was right to leave Guildford.  A change of scenery was needed and a chance for me to experience something different.

“Going to Glasgow as an opposition player was never a pleasant experience and it was always one of the more dreaded games on the schedule.

“The Clan have some of the best fans in the league and the noise level was something else whenever I played there.

“It’s going to be great to be on the right side of that in the new season.”

Dunbar has played in all 22 fixtures against the Clan for the Flames since they joined the Premier Sports Elite League in 2017, where he’s scored three goals and made 13 assists.

His record in the UK reads 263 games, with 65 goals to his name along with 195 assists in all competitions.

Dunbar also has a Challenge Cup runners-up medal and two play-off final weekend appearances, playing for the Flames in 2019 and earlier this year.

Clan head coach Malcolm Cameron believed his new man’s experience is a definite asset as he welcomed him to the club.

“John Dunbar is a proven commodity in our league and has been very productive for Guildford Flames,” Cameron said. He caught my eye last season and proved himself to be a good powerplay player.

“He was creative and patient on the puck and it won’t be a surprise to people that we wanted to add to our scoring this year.

“We wanted to have more depth in scoring and John is certainly going to help us produce and while he’s more of a playmaker, he can put the puck in the net.

“He ticked a lot of boxes for me and not only is he excited to be coming here, we’re excited to have him.”

Dunbar will wear the #90 jersey for the Clan.
