Tripp joins from German DEL2 outfit Eispiraten Crimmitshau where he was head coach during the 2016/17 season.

The 40-year-old Canadian had a distinguished playing career having iced for the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings in the NHL.

Since 2004, Tripp has played in the DEL with Alder Mannheim, ERC Ingolstadt, Hamburg Freezers, Hannover Scorpions and Kolner Haie, where he was captain.

Tripp has also iced in over 50 games for the German National team, which included the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Clan Hockey & Operations Director Gareth Chalmers commented: “We’re delighted to welcome John and his family to the Braehead Clan.

“From the outset we wanted someone young, ambitious, well connected, with the leadership to take us to the next level. In John we believe we have that.

“He has been recommended to us by Uwe Krupp (head coach of Eisbären Berlin), Paul Gardner (head coach of Löwen Frankfurt) and a number of other well respected people throughout the hockey world.

“I believe John will challenge the rest of the club to be better with the aim of challenging for silverware.

“I am looking forward to working with John and I am sure the Purple Army will join me in giving John and his family a big welcome to Glasgow.”
