NEWS: Beukeboom enjoying life on the road

November 13, 2021

Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan defenceman Brock Beukeboom has admitted he enjoys life on the road.

The 29-year-old is gearing up for Sunday’s game against Coventry Blaze at the Skydome (face off 5.30pm) with the team looking for their first win of the season.

But Beukeboom is preferring to look at the positive side of the away trips the Clan are currently on before they can come home later this month.

“Of course, you can’t wait to play home games, but there’s nothing wrong with road trips,” he said. “If anything, if we can get a few of those out of the way early, that sets up more home games down the stretch which could benefit us.

“We’re all used to long road trips. That’s the nature of the game. We’re doing, but everyone else has to do it too. It’s important we arrive mentally prepared and ready to go.

“I actually like being on the road, where you can connect with your team-mates on a different level so I’ve always found they can bring the team closer together, particularly early in the season.

“The more games we get under our belts, the easier it’s going to be on us. The first couple are the hardest in getting in game shape.

“For us going to Coventry, we have to make some adjustments. Belfast was good, but we want to win and there’s some things we’ve been working on.”

Beukeboom however is refusing to accept the excuse that Clan’s Premier Sports Elite League rivals are weeks ahead with their season.

And while he was positive about Glasgow’s 3-2 battling loss to Belfast Giants on Sunday, he admits there is work to be done.

“We didn’t care they’d played more games than us,” he added. “We’re professionals and we’re trying to win and I thought Shane (Starrett) played really well in goal. He kept us in the game while they capitalised on one or two of their chances.

“It’s bittersweet to be at 2-2 going into the last few minutes, thinking you can get a point, only for the other team to score with three minutes to go. But there was a lot of things to take from the game.

“We’ve had some fine tuning, but it’s about getting the rust out. It’s not how we start it’s how we finish so overall, it was a good starting point, but there’s always room for improvement.”
