The Glasgow Clan made it three wins in a row and leapt to fifth in the standings after a convincing 6-3 win over league leaders Nottingham Panthers.

It was a performance that more than merited the points as Panthers failed to get any kind of foothold on the game.

But Clan managed to escape an early scare when an untimely slip from Travis Ehrhardt let in newest Panthers’ signing, Alex Bolduc.

He bore down on goal, but found home goalie Joel Rumpel more than up to the task as he got the advantage to make the save.

Pete Russell’s men took the lead with a powerplay goal when Scott Pitt found Josh Gratton in front of the crease and the forward flicked the puck into the net.

Panthers equalised almost five minutes into the second period when Alex Guptill came in from the left, dragging the disc away from Rumpel and applied the finish.

The home side were soon back in the lead when Rasmus Bjerrum’s quick pass from behind the net found Gerard Hanson, who delivered it home.

Then Craig Peacock added a third from close range as Bjerrum and Hanson combined for the English forward.

Soon it was a three-goal lead for the Clan when Tyler Biggs slipped to allow Matt Stanisz to smash the shot into the net from the wide left for his first goal of the season.

But Panthers pulled one back when a scramble saw the puck break to Guptill in the slot and he tapped in for their second.

Travis Ehrhardt bulleted one in from the blue line to restore the three-goal advantage for Glasgow. However the night wasn’t over yet.

Panthers added a third from Robert Farmer with a scrappy finish, but it was made safe with an empty net goal from Brendan Connolly in the final minute.
