Covid guidelines and information: Utilita Arena

It’s off to one of the harder venues in the Premier Sports Elite League as Glasgow Clan head to Yorkshire and a Wednesday night date with Aaron Fox’s Sheffield Steelers.

Victories here have been hard to come by in recent years, but as Dundee Stars proved on Sunday, they can be beaten and it will be something Malcolm Cameron will have investigated in how his team can do that.

Clan ran them close in a pre-Christmas meeting, seeing Steelers swipe an equaliser with 19 seconds to go to take the game to 2-2 then stealing it in overtime through John Armstrong.

But, with four unbeaten games behind them, Glasgow head into this one with a decent amount of confidence and that gritty, yet effective 2-1 win over Nottingham Panthers on Sunday fresh in the memory.

The start will be key and if Clan can give them cause for concern, maybe put a couple of goals on the board, it could turn into another absorbing contest.

PLAYER TO WATCH

#75 Robert Dowd

There are many players within the Elite League who are instantly recognisable because of the team they play for and it’s fair to say Robert Dowd and Steelers go hand in hand.

A supremely talented forward, Dowd has been a mainstay for many a coach at the club and could move himself above Jeff Legue to be the third all-time highest goal scorer for the Steelers, one shy of Legue’s 266.

Let’s not forget the role he’s played for GB in recent years and while he may not be as big a scorer as the likes of Vallerand, his role in those forward lines definitely make him a threat.

He works well with Vallerand, but has enjoyed teaming up with John Armstrong and Tanner Eberle in recent games and will have that goal scoring target in sight for this game.
