GAME PREVIEW: Clan come home at last

November 27, 2021

Glasgow Clan vs Coventry Blaze

Braehead Arena, Glasgow (face off 7pm)

Ticket details: Clan vs Blaze

Live stream: There is no live stream for this game

The big day is finally here. After one year, eight months and 30 days, Glasgow Clan are back home and what a night it’s going to be.

Coventry Blaze will be the first visitors since the Covid pandemic and, like Clan, will be looking forward to going home after a faulty ice plant forced them on the road the last couple of weeks.

Clan’s scheduled meeting with them at the Skydome two weeks ago was a casualty, but now they’ll finally lock horns in this Premier Sports Elite League clash.

Blaze finished third in the aborted 2019/20 season and are keen to get back to those sort of heights, but a run of four losses in their last six is a record they’ll want to overturn.

With an excited home fan base back after 21 months, a desire to get more points on the board and a team who have been difficult to beat, Blaze will be up for the challenge of spoiling the party.

It sets the scene for a good night ahead as Glasgow Clan finally come home and do you know what? It’s going to be fantastic.

PREVIOUS MEETING

WHAT THEY SAY –

Clan head coach Malcolm Cameron:

“I pre-scouted Coventry previously ahead of the game that was postponed and I had a game plan for it that I never got the chance to execute.

“Right now, we’re worried about ourselves and what we do. Anything else, I can’t control and teams like Coventry, who are on a run of four losses from six, are highly motivated.

“They’ll be energised and ready to go after losing their previous games and while you might say it might be a good time to get them, people might say that about us as we try to get into game shape.

Coventry Blaze head coach Danny Stewart:

“Firstly, it’s great to have Glasgow back playing and back in their own rink. We are looking forward to this game and being part of their home opener.

“Glasgow has a few games under their belt now and some more time together. We know they will be more polished than a couple weeks ago and we expect a tough game from them.

“They have a good balance of skill and grit, so we need to match that. They will be fired up for their first home game, so our start will be key if we want a result there.”

PLAYER TO WATCH

#30 CJ Motte

The Premier Sports Elite League’s Player of the Week returned to Coventry this summer with some fanfare, given how well he did in 2019/20 in helping them finish third.

He’s already got the second highest save percentage in league play so far, prior to the weekend and his accolade earlier in the week is an indicator of how big a player he’s become for the Blaze.

Clan showed in Belfast they have the attacking talent in their ranks to get the goals, but getting them past Motte will be a tricky proposition and his performance could dictate just how successful Cameron’s team are in this fixture.
