NEWS: Peacock takes on captaincy role

December 30, 2022

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce Craig Peacock as the new captain for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.

The 34-year-old takes on the ‘C’ letter after the departure of Mathieu Roy, who previously held the role until his departure earlier this month.

Associate coach Dyson Stevenson spoke of why ‘Peaks’ stood out to take on the extra responsibility on since Roy’s departure and what he’ll bring to the role.

“Peaks will wear the ‘C’ on New Year’s Eve and it was important to us to have someone in the locker room who has the final say, other than the coaches,” Stevenson explained.

“He’s a guy who’s been around the league a long time and around the Clan for a long time as well.  Craig is someone the guys look to and respect.

“He’s a professional, comes to play every night, works hard and does all the right things.  ‘Peaks’ is a stand-up guy across the board and I think we’ve made a good decision and one which is good news for the club going forward.”

Peacock’s promotion to captain is the first time he’s been elevated to such a role, after serving as assistant captain not only at the Clan, but at previous clubs Belfast Giants and Fife Flyers too.

The forward first joined the Clan in 2017 and has been the club’s longest serving player, despite playing in Fife for a season in 2021/22.

Further to this, Mitch Jones, John Dunbar and Steven McParland have all been made assistant captain for the rest of the season as well.

Jones was already in the role and will continue on as part of the re-shuffle, but Dunbar and McParland have been elevated up to receive letters on their respective jerseys.

Stevenson added: “Mitch Jones has done a really good job with the ‘A’ this year so we wanted to keep him in place.  He works hard and is the first one at the rink every day, not to mention the minutes he puts in on the ice.

“For John Dunbar, we gave him the assistant’s role when a couple of the other guys went down and was very good in fulfilling that responsibility.  He’s another one who works hard, knows the league well is vocal in the room.

“Steve McParland is going to be new to the leadership group and someone else well respected and gives a lot every night when he plays.  He does the right things and someone who has stepped up this season and turned some heads.

“When these guys speak, the rest of the room responds to them and we believe they’ll do a good job working with Craig and helping him in the coming weeks and months.”
