NEWS: Peacock geared for “biggest game with Fife”

March 19, 2023

Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan captain Craig Peacock says Sunday’s Viaplay Elite League game with Fife Flyers is one of the biggest games against the Kirkcaldy men he’s been involved in.

Clan go to Fife locked in a head-to-head battle for the final play-off spot as the league heads to a thrilling crescendo on the back of a heart-breaking 5-4 loss at Guildford Flames on Saturday.

And Peacock reveals he’s been stressing to his team-mates why reaching the play-offs is so important.

“I certainly think it’s the biggest game with Fife I’ll have been involved in given what’s on the line for both teams,” he said.

“The rivalry is intense at the best of times so given what’s at stake, it’s certainly going to be a good one.

“I was at Fife last year and the team missed out on the play-offs so I’ve been trying to get across to the guys about how it sucks, as a player, to not be involved.

“You don’t want to be one of those two teams that misses out.  It might be a short format competition, but it’s still another trophy to be won.

“If we can claw our way in there, I’m not going to say it’s a success, it would certainly show the character of this team and everyone is up for it.”

Clan were idle last week while the rest of the teams all played, allowing them to catch up in terms of fixtures played while Glasgow had to hope for favourable outcomes.

But Peacock wants to keep his team’s fate in their hands with so few games left as the play-off picture is gradually completed over time.

“We had a tough stretch after we returned from the international break last month, but getting the four-point weekend a couple of weeks ago was just what we needed,” he added.

“With the way everything’s gone, if can pick up points in the final games, everyone’s going to be happy we’ve done that. We want to try and keep it in our hands as much as we can.

“In our arena, the atmosphere is great, but going to Fife, our fans, I saw, have already sold out one block and selling really well in another which helps us.”
