NEWS: Clan bench about to get Battah

July 18, 2023

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the appointment of Jeff Battah as the club’s new assistant coach and goaltending coach.

The 42-year-old from Oshawa, Ontario, brings a wealth of experience in the roles he will perform for the Clan, having worked in Europe and North America over the last two decades.

He gave an insight into why he decided to bring his skillset to Scotland and what attracted him to the Elite League.

“It feels great (to sign with the Clan),” he said. “I’m excited with the new ownership and to be working alongside Jason Morgan, helping him implement his plan and vision on the hockey club.

“Jason and I have talked over the years about working together but it hasn’t been able to work out.  This time around it has happened and I’m looking forward finally getting that opportunity.

“I have always wanted to work and live in the UK and the league is energetic and exciting.  The atmosphere in the EIHL is tremendous plus the intensity of the games week to week will be a great experience.

“Over the years everyone who I have talked to about playing in Glasgow have described the atmosphere at the rink from the fans and the lifestyle and culture of being in the city.”

Battah moves to the Clan after two years in Hungary with Budapest Jegkorong Academy and MAC Ujbuda, where he worked with Erste Liga players as well as Under 21 and Under 18 players as a netminder coach.

Prior to that, he was assistant coach of Vancouver Giants in the WHL and served in the dual roles in Austria with HC Innsbruck and Graz 99ers.

After retiring as a player in 2001 with Brampton Capitals, he built up a career as a coach of some repute, working with a variety of clubs in Canada, including WHL sides Lethbridge Hurricanes and Prince George Cougars.

Clan coach Jason Morgan revealed Battah will play a big part in his team this season and warmly welcomed his new colleague.

“I’m pleased to have Jeff come to the club and he brings a lot of experience from the major junior leagues and in Europe too.

“He’ll be a great asset for me, where he’ll assist with video, game analysis, practice, bench management and work with our goalies too.

“Welcome to the Clan hockey family, Jeff.”
